A Very Backyardigan Adventure, Don't You Think?

We had Emily's 3rd birthday party today. Her chosen theme - The Backyardigans. The day started with a morning of prep and set-up while Emily watched Backyardigans and coloured in her new Backyardigan colouring book. This was a fun party to set up for with all of the bright colours. The amount of Backyardigan items we already had on hand definitely helped with decorating, along with the Dollar store and Keri's Craft Corner. It was such a fun day.









We kicked off the party at the craft table colouring and adding stickers to tambourines, which would later be used to kick off the "Race Around the World".






"Race Around the World" is one of our favorite Backyardigans episodes - an oldie but a goody. We used this as an inspiration for our event. We set up event stations around our "world" (fairy garden), completed each race or activity and received a "Backyard Olympian" Medal at the end!! All of the events even had the corresponding music playing in the background thanks to D.J. Kris!!
Our first event was the Egg-"bert" race. King Pablo needed our help, to take care of his "Eggs". We had to become Mighty Knights, the Flighty Fairy and the Grabin' Gobblin and take our "Eggs" back to King Pablo's Castle before it hatched!! In other words, a spoon race with plastic eggs that held a dragon inside which would pop open if dropped!








The speakers fired out "Go, Go, Go" to tell us to move on to the next station.
Next up - SOCCER MONSTER. We had 2 nets going and the kids had to yell in their scariest monster voice "SOCCER" and try to kick the ball in the net. Kierra definitely won in this game!!




Next up the "Spy Limbo Bean Bag Toss". After our "Super Spies" made it under the laser limbo beam (or makeshift limbo contraption alternative)they had to toss their Backyardigan friends successfully into the target bucket.








Then on to the always-a-fan-favorite game of Pin the Bowtie on Pablo. Emily was up first and the miraculous occurred. Strangely enough, while blind-folded she proceded to place the bowtie in the EXACT location. I mean there wasn't even the slightest edge of the blank tie space beneath it. At 3 years of age she could never repeat this precise placement even with her eyes open - HILARIOUS. Needless to say, it would be tough to beat, but everyone had their go. Landyn, the comedian, was up next and intelligently felt around for her sticker and put his on top!!! Some of the others had trouble even finding the board!!!







We finished off the race at Mad Scientist Tasha's Laboratory, where the kids got to make some potion. Some warm water, some stinky (vinegar) and some magic powder (baking soda) and a touch of food colouring. They loved the reaction, some pretty stunned faces as their bottles foamed up and overflowed.






Popcorn, hotdogs and chili were on the menu for lunch - mmm. Followed by cupcakes adorned with suckers. After cake and a brief stand-up comedy act by Landyn, Emily settled in to open her gifts. By this point she had discovered that the eyes popped out of her Pablo mask, and would not removed it from that point on, so most pictures have her hidden behind the mask. I think she felt protected by because whe was quite overwhelmed by all of the gifts and people crowded around her.
